I’ll be studying out of Ezekiel 38, where Ezekiel received word from God to give as warning to the people. It is written in verse 2- “Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him.” Now, Tubal and Meshech were decedents of Noah, through the line of Japheth (Genesis 10:2). “By these were the Isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.” Meaning, they are seen as the gentile nations to the North of Israel. I’ll tell you later how I got to this conclusion.
I searched up a few sites to find out who these people were, God was referring too. Most sites only have speculative ideas, and I rather stick to what the bible says. I found a clue in Ezekiel 39:2 (KJV) saying, that they are “… from the north parts,” and will be brought against the country Israel. From this declaration, we can know that they aren’t people from Israel and that they are from the Northern countries.
A description of these people are found in one of the poems of David: “Deliver my soul, O Lord , from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue. What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue? Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper. Woe is me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar! My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace” (Psalms 120:2-6, KJV). Countries hating peace and deceive many with their “false tongues,” will be facing judgement from God’s great weaponry and fiery anger.
The northern army is described in great detail, in Ezekiel 38 as, “all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords” (verse 4). This is, therefore, a great army that will come against the land of Israel. And along with them will be other countries that will ally themselves with the Northern region. These countries are, verse 5– “Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya,” and ” 6- Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.” Gomer is a brother of Meshech and Tubal, meaning a brotherhood is formed between these countries. But God is warning the Northern region to 7- “…prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them” for this will be prophesy coming true and you are paving the way to your own destruction.
When will this happen?- you might ask. God is always true and give hints throughout His Word. In verse 8 we find, “after many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.” Meaning, that after Israel is a nation again, brought out of the many countries it used to live in, to their home, that was a wasteland for many centuries. Then the Northern people will plot against the people who dwell in the security of the Lord.
The plot of the Northern people and all their allies is to bring total destruction to the land of Israel. Ezekiel describing their actions “like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land” (verse 9). The armies will attack the “unwalled villages” who “are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates” (verse 11). Verse 12-“To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land” (verse 12). Farming areas will be under attack and the people of “Sheba (Southern Arabia), and Dedan (India), and the merchants of Tarshish (Southern Spain),” will also feel the pillages of these countries (verse 13).
But what we need to understand is that it will be God’s will for these countries to “bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes” (verse 16). To be sanctified, means to be set apart as or declare holy, and made free from sin. In all things God still wants the best for all of us. God used all His Old Testament prophets to tell of this day. A day that is now fast approaching. God even says clearly in verse 17-“Thus saith the Lord God ; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?”
God promises that for those countries standing up against the country, Israel, that He “...will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth….” (verse 4). “And … that my fury shall come up in my face” (verse 18). We find a repeat of this prophesy in Revelations. Showing the importance of this event, and the warning that God want to give to the people. “And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them” (Revelation 20:7-9, KJV).
Whenever we see something repeated within any form of text, we can know for certain that it is important to know. Ezekiel warned that God will use His fiery jealousy and anger to cause “… a great shaking in the land of Israel” (verse 19). So much “so that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground (verse 20).
This will then be the end of All things. All the prophesies of old and those which are prophesied through our times today, will come into fulfillment. My heart is heavy, but if God gives a warning, we need to take notice. For people will turn on each other and declare war unto their brothers (verse 21). People will be struck by pestilence and death, and there will be rainstorms as never experienced before, with “great hailstones, fire, and brimstone” (verse 22). But take heart, for God promise that a “six part of thee” will be left unharmed (Ezekiel 39:2, KJV).
It will be then that every knee will bow and testify of the Glory of the Lord. In verse 23 we read : “Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord.” Nobody will be able to say, that God isn’t real.
My prayer for us all today is that God will show us mercy and grace. May He guide our steps and forgive us our sins and trespasses against Him and others. #GodCanDoThis
