The Lord’s Calling

What does it mean to be called to do something? A ‘calling’ is when you experience a strong urge towards a particular way of life, career, or vocation. What did God call you to do? Or have you been seeking excuses in not doing so? Such as, I’m not trained for this, I don’t have time, or this is too difficult…

We read in 1 Corinthians 12:7-12 (KJV) that, through the Holy Spirit we receive gifts to help us in this calling of ours. Some receive “the word of wisdom,” “word of knowledge,” “[unbending] faith,” “healing,” “working of miracles,” “prophecy,” “discerning of spirits,” “divers kind of tongues,” or “interpretation of tongues.” But all these gifts needs to work together to help each other grow, and strengthen each other. No gift is more important than the others. Some people are fortunate to have more than one gift. But are you using that gift to help built the Kingdom of God. Just like these upright stones in the picture we are all called to be way-finders for each other.

We find Jeremiah pleading to the Lord, in the next piece:

6-‘O thou sword of the Lord , how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still. 7- How can it be quiet, seeing the Lord hath given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? there hath he appointed it. Jeremiah 47:6‭-‬7 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/jer.47.6-7.KJV

Jeremiah had to prophesy against the Egyptian people, warning them about the kingdom in the North, Babylon. We find him here pleading actually with God, asking: When will the Lord’s anger abate? When will God stop using the king of Babylon as His sword? But Jeremiah also realized that the Lord has called His servant, Nebuchadnezzar,to do His bidding. And His servant has a hungry spirit and he had a fervor to bring Ashkelon, a city which followed pagan gods, to heel.

Do you have a fervor to serve the Lord?

My prayer for you today, is that you will discover your special gift and your calling in His Kingdom. May the Lord place a passion in your heart like a fire, which no one can extinguish. #GodCanDoThis
